Chinese Premier Li Qiang has signed a State Council decree introducing revised measures for public holiday arrangements, adding a total of two extra days to official holidays.

The Spring Festival holiday will now extend from three to four days, with Lunar New Year's Eve included. The May Day holiday will expand from one day to two, now covering May 1 and May 2.

Under the new policy, public holidays can be adjusted to combine with adjacent weekends or paid annual leave, allowing for extended breaks. Except in rare circumstances, working days surrounding national holidays will generally not exceed six consecutive days.

These revised holiday measures will take effect on Jan. 1, 2025, according to a statement from the State Council.
