Border inspection agencies across Jiangsu province recorded approximately 310,000 entry and exit trips by foreigners in the first ten months of 2024, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 118.2 percent.

Among these, Japanese and South Korean nationals accounted for 189,000 trips—over 60 percent of the total—representing an 80.8 percent increase compared to the previous year. Jiangsu has maintained strong economic and trade ties with both countries, accounting for nearly one-fifth of China’s total trade with Japan and hosting a similar proportion of Japanese-invested enterprises in the country. Additionally, Jiangsu remains South Korea’s largest trading partner and top investment destination within China.

This year, Jiangsu has opened or resumed six air routes connecting to Japan and South Korea, bringing the total number of passenger and cargo routes to nearly 20. The province has seen a growing number of visits from these countries for purposes such as business, cultural exchanges, tourism, exhibitions, and family reunions.

From January to October, Jiangsu’s border ports recorded 3.984 million inbound and outbound trips overall, marking an 86.6 percent year-on-year increase.

On November 8, China expanded its visa-free entry policy to include citizens from nine additional countries, including South Korea. On the same day, Wuxi Airport welcomed its first group of over 40 South Korean travelers under the new policy, who completed their entry procedures seamlessly within just half an hour.
