Between 00:00 and 24:00 of April 27, two new locally transmitted confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection (one in Yancheng and one in Suqian) were registered in Jiangsu province. 

Seventy-two symptomless cases (four in Wuxi, 38 in Xuzhou, five in Changzhou, 14 in Suzhou, one in Yancheng, eight in Yangzhou, and two in Suqian) and one inbound asymptomatic carrier were newly reported in the province.

Four more confirmed cases (all local) were discharged from hospital on April 27, while 99 asymptomatic carriers (95 local and four inbound) were released from medical observation. 

Meanwhile, 70 confirmed cases (69 local and one inbound) were still under treatment at designated hospitals, while 1,177 asymptomatic carriers (1,176 local and one inbound) were under medical observation.

Experts noted that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus — proven to be more transmissible than the Delta variant — has imposed a new challenge for epidemic controls. It is necessary to continue with protective measures and keep up with the relevant information from official sources. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel abroad or trips to areas with medium- or high-risk status or confirmed local cases.
