Changzhou took center stage on December 17, hosting the Provincial Green Construction Experience Exchange Conference. The event showcased the city’s innovative practices in green construction, aiming to expand pilot programs across Jiangsu and drive the construction industry’s transition to high-quality, low-carbon development.
Participants toured notable green construction projects, including the Changzhou Construction Research Institute’s Inspection and Testing Headquarters and the new campus of Jiangsu University of Technology. The institute’s project integrates green development principles throughout all stages, from planning and design to construction and delivery. It incorporates advanced green technologies, such as lifecycle carbon emissions digital management, green building materials, full-process Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems, prefabricated interiors, smart construction sites, low-carbon operations, and building-integrated photovoltaics.
The Jiangsu University of Technology campus exemplifies innovation in sustainable building practices. Guided by a strategy that emphasizes green energy, green equipment, and green materials while lowering emissions, construction waste, and energy consumption, the campus integrates advanced green construction techniques to create sustainable working and living environments. This project is expected to achieve a significant total carbon reduction of 700,000 tonnes.
The conference highlighted Changzhou’s achievements as a national pilot city for green construction since 2020. The city has developed a comprehensive management policy framework, localized evaluation systems, practical technical solutions, numerous pilot projects, and industrial clusters, creating a distinctive blueprint for sustainable construction.
Looking ahead, Changzhou plans to expand green building practices further, increase the adoption of renewable energy in construction, and develop the Twin Lakes Innovation Zone, located between West Taihu and Changdang Lakes, as a model area for achieving carbon peaking and neutrality in urban-rural integration. By advancing intelligent construction and pursuing ambitious sustainability goals, Changzhou continues to cement its status as the New Energy Capital, setting benchmarks for eco-friendly urban development.
