Jiangsu province, leveraging its well-established industrial chains in drone and aerospace manufacturing, has laid a solid foundation for the robust growth of its low-altitude economy. This emerging sector is poised to become a key driver of economic innovation and regional development in the coming years.
Currently, the province has approved 324 low-altitude flight routes to support a wide range of applications, including sightseeing, express delivery, healthcare, and patrolling.
In a significant push to bolster the sector, Jiangsu released comprehensive guidelines last year aimed at accelerating the high-quality development of its low-altitude economy. The province has set ambitious targets, aiming to lead the nation in the scale of low-altitude economy by 2027 and establish a competitive, fully integrated industry chain by 2030.
Among the regions spearheading this effort, Pukou district in Nanjing stands out as one of the first national civil unmanned aviation test zones and the only one of its kind in Jiangsu.
Additionally, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, Yangzhou, and Changzhou have rolled out their three-year development plans for the low-altitude economy, collectively aiming to generate an economic output exceeding 180 billion yuan. Other cities, including Zhenjiang, Nantong, and Xuzhou, are also making significant strides in advancing the sector, with the potential to push the province’s total economic output beyond 200 billion yuan.
Nationwide, the low-altitude economy is gaining momentum, with the Civil Aviation Administration of China projecting the sector to reach 1.5 trillion yuan by 2025 and 3.5 trillion yuan by 2035. Jiangsu’s proactive approach and strategic investments position it as a key contributor to this growth trajectory.
