Recently, the Ministry of Culture announced that the exhibition series of “Brilliance of a Century - Approaching to the Art of Contemporary Masters” held by Liu Haisu Art Museum, was awarded the 2015 national outstanding gallery exhibition.
It is the first time that the museum claimed a national award, marking its approach towards top-class domestic museum in exhibition planning and research, which also established its leading position among art museums in Jiangsu.
From September to October 2015, Liu Haisu Art Museum launched the exhibition series of “Brilliance of a Century - Approaching to the Art of Contemporary Masters” in cooperation with art galleries in Beijing, Shenzhen, Nanjing and Yixing, exhibiting more than 160 pieces of fine paintings and calligraphy works of masters like Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Fu Baoshi, Lin Sanzhi, Guan Shanyue, etc. As a highlight of the “Culture 100” grand social benefiting events, the exhibition presented to the people of Changzhou a feast of culture.
Liu Haisu (1896-1994) was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. He was a Chinese painter and teacher who combined traditional Chinese painting methods with European techniques, especially those of van Gogh and Cézanne, and promoted this style as a model for revolutionizing art education in China. He played a prominent role in the world of Chinese fine art for nearly seven decades.
In 2016, Liu Haisu Art Museum will hold a series of academic activities to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth Liu Haisu.
