On March 17, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism unveiled its sixth list of national-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) representative inheritors, with four distinguished Changzhou artisans honored for their expertise:

  • Kuo Chen, master of Tianning Temple Buddhist Chanting and Recitation, preserving sacred musical traditions.
  • Sun Yanyun,  expert in Changzhou Random Stitch Embroidery, a refined branch of Suxiu embroidery.
  • Xiao Jianbo, inheritor of Changzhou’s Micro-Engraving Arts, specializing in ultra-fine carving techniques.
  • Bai Jianren, leading practitioner of Changzhou Liuqing Bamboo Carving, renowned for its intricate etched designs.

This recognition highlights Changzhou’s commitment to safeguarding China’s living heritage. The city now boasts 15 national-level, 59 provincial-level, and 386 municipal-level ICH inheritors—a testament to its thriving ecosystem for passing down traditional arts.
